NEW TO NORTHERN NEVADA? START HERE!
Welcome to the amazing Carson Valley! Sitting at the base of the Sierra Mountain Range, and bordered on the eastern most side by the Pinenut mountain range, it is a well-protected, picturesque gem. The Valley is centrally located with Lake Tahoe just up the hill. Reno is only a 30 minute drive to the north, Sacramento is 2 hours, San Francisco/Bay area is 3-4 hours. The south end of Douglas county borders California, so visiting family or travel between the two states is very easy.
If you’re looking for wide open spaces with huge views, then a trip to Carson Valley is a must! Making up a large part of Douglas County, it is here that you will find the towns of Genoa, Minden, Gardnerville, and Topaz. Douglas County is largely made up of agricultural land serving our many local farms and ranches, housing cows and other livestock, with Alfalfa being the main crop grown in the area. It is due to these vast open spaces that this area can be so incredibly attractive. The population of Douglas County was nearly 50 thousand as of 2019! Douglas county has many types of properties to offer, from patio homes for those who like to travel, quarter acre to full acre lots for those who want more space, horse properties, ranches and farms, you name it… we’ll find it! What are you looking for? Did you know there is no state income tax in Nevada? Most of my clients coming from California are saving a bundle by buying property in our area!
Outdoor enthusiast or skier? Heavenly Ski Resort, Kirkwood Ski Resort, Mt Rose Ski Resort, the Pacific Rim Trail, Lake Tahoe, Lake Topaz and so much more are literally in our back yard! Love the outdoors but worried about having to drive in the snow? Douglas county is a very dry climate, and the mountains take most of the tough weather and we usually don’t see it down here in the valley.
If you have school aged children and are looking for top rated schools, Douglas county is ranked one of the highest school districts in the state of Nevada, and offers K-12th grade education. You can learn more about our amazing schools here:

I moved here 15 years ago with my husband who was born and raised in this area, and I am still in awe of the area’s beauty and sense of community. There is always something to do-- free concerts in the park, movies in the park, wine walks, craft fairs, sporting events, farmers markets and so much more! Give me a call if you’d like to learn more and take a look at our local chambers website to help you plan your visit!: http://www.carsonvalleynv.org/events/calendar
