Why you'd want to live in Carson City
Carson City is one of the smallest capitols in the United States with a population of only 54,414 as of the 2018 census. Sitting at the base of the eastern side of the Sierra Mountain Range, the city started with the discovery of Silver and the Comstock Lode. Carson City has served as the capital of Nevada since it was created as state in 1864. The town was named after Kit Carson, (*Fun fact* -- my husband’s Great-Great Grand Uncle). Kit was an American frontiersman, mountain man and is acknowledged as a frontier legend for his role in developing this amazing territory. In modern times, as in the past, Carson City is a fantastic place to call home. It has the feel of a smaller town with many “big town” amenities. Just a short drive up Highway 50 will take you to Lake Tahoe, and the new I-580 Interstate connects the south end of Carson City to Reno and Washoe Valley. Carson City offers many local and chain restaurants and shopping including a Costco, 2 Walmart’s, JC Penny’s, Kohl’s and many others. Historic downtown Carson City is a wonderful place to visit, housing the Nevada State Capital, The Ormbsy House, and Nevada State Railroad Museum. There are many community events to participate in as well! We have farmers markets, Taste of Downtown, Concerts on 3rd street, wine and beer walks and so much more. Would you like a historic home or one with more land? Carson City can provide that.
